Thanks for responding. swapped out and
put in the PYI mounts last Saturday, it went well, only took
2 hrs. Like yours, I had to come up with some creative
wrenches, 2 nuts had fiberglass around them. In the front, I
used a 4X4 across the floor with other blocks, a 6' pipe to
lift up the engine. was able to set old next to new and dial
in rough height.
In the back I cut a couple of beveled 2X4 stringers
across the bilge to support my little bottle jack that had a
nice V fitting on the top of the piston. so a chain around
the transmission lifted it up.
It took me 2 days to pump down the monel fuel tank and
disconnect all the fittings . It was the first time in 30
years its been out of there. Access to drive train was much
improved. I got the bolts out of the mating flanges. No room
for a gear puller on the prop side. The marina guy
told me to put a socket ( 9/16) in between the flanges, get
longer flange bolts, and gently tighten them all up. The
socket pushes out the shaft. Using PB blaster it still took
all day, but got it out yesterday, was pretty happy not to
break an ear off the transmission side of the set up.
Fuel
tank has lots of black sludge on the bottom, so its been a
very worth while project. marina guy said something about
rinsing it out with alcohol.
Even though our boats are only a few years apart, my
drive shaft is 7/8th dia. The hose is only 1-1/2.
I still have to get the cutlass bearing out, but have heard
of some tricks for that too.
I'm glad it only needs to be done every couple of
decades. I'm still trying to straighten it out.
Lake Champlain is up to 39 degrees, so
I still got a
couple of weeks for re-assembly.
