Our new (to us) Pearson 35 was manufactured in 1980 and is hull# 471. Her
new name is
"Willow". My wife and I are the fourth owners of this very well
maintained
yacht. Her white hull has been faired and ten coats of epoxy
resin applied.
All external thru-hull fittings have been faired to create a
perfectly smooth
hull with extra reinforcement on the inside making her very
strong and fast.
The Universal 24 diesel engine has a new Balmar high output
alternator with
a solid state regulator. A new battery charger has been
installed to
keep her starting battery and set of four new golf cart
batteries
charged. Willow has three GPS units on board and full
racing/cruising
instrumentation. We plan on adding radar capabilities soon.
The "old" sails
are three years old, while the "new" sails were in the
process of being
delivered from North Sails as the boat was being surveyed
for purchase.
She has new sail covers, two dodgers, bimini top, and a deck
awning. The
cabin sole is teak and holly that just glows. She has new foam
cushions and
custom upholstery in her very clean cabin.
We're currently
in the process of giving her a thorough cleaning while
updating all of
the lighting fixtures. I'm also in the process of installing
a new Blue Sea
13-switch DC power panel with battery monitoring gauges.
She's also
getting a new Blue Sea AC power panel for better control of the
battery charger.
My wife and I are having a great time with our new "magic carpet" and are
looking forward
to our own "circumnavigation" of the Caribbean and other
places in South
America, Central America and Mexico. This is something that
I have wanted to
do for over 25 years. As Jimmy Buffett would say, "...Yes,
I am a Pirate,
born 200 hundred years too late"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Steve and Ruth, did you say 10 coats of epoxy? Did the
previous owner work for Interlux or something? When you add the
Radar, we expect a nice 'project story,' on how it all went together! |
