Blownaway

I purchased this 1981 P35 from East Greenich R.I. this summer. The previous owner had her named Scotish Lion and had owned her since 1985 some additional paperwork showed a previous name of Entrepreneur.

The boat was claimed to be built in 1981 and launched in 1982.  I've since shipped  it to Lake Ontario and Rochester N.Y. It has a few unique upgrades , I haven't seen on a P35 as yet. The handrails on the coach roof are 1 piece,  I note most usually have 2 on each side. The galley also has a double SS sink and the companion way stairs are a bit offset to stb, to compensate. A previous owner has also done some unique wood work (note handrails around companionway) I also was impressed by the way the gauges were includes with smoke Plexiglas and clear deck plates for access.

Lots of projects planned for this winter including Pulling the Universal 5424 diesel to replace all hoses, and paint that bilge so I can see whats down there also raising the boom to spare my skull and make room for a dodger/bimini and lots of general maintenance and cleanup. I plan to rename her Blownaway ( an earlier boat name I had that became available again locally) Note one of the pictures shows my Boat guard dog, named Dodger (actually guarding the food on the picnic bench) wants to meet  Sandy. Let me know if i can add to the site. I have a few of the Universal diesel manuals electonically.

I'm in the process of attempting to pull the 5424 diesel this weekend. Its all unbolted but still being stubborn plan to rig a hoist this afternoon . I have a small oil leak (oil pressure sending switch)I  also want to replace stuffing box and learn everything I can about the 5424. I've had several Atomic 4's and felt comfortable tackeling most projects on that motor but the diesel is new for me.

I'm also not used to the corrosion and rust salt water can cause, the most stubborn part of the disassembly  was a rusted cotter pin attaching the transmission shift cable. The access to the engine and shaft is a nightmare and I kid about needing to take a yoga class to work on this engine.  I've been sailing @30 years the P35 is boat number 5 for me, I decided to look for a shallower draft boat after an ICW delivery and a Bahama's visit with some fellow sailors.

Thanks Tom for all the info and great pictures.

I'm sure your progress will really help out those who have a

Universal 5424 engine.  This interior is really different from the typical P35.  Keep us posted.
